Intel will upgrade its Centrino technology to Centrino Pro
Posted On 10/25/2006 08:53:30

Wow .. Intel is confident .. Intel will upgrade its Centrino technology to Centrino Pro, with the launch to come with the availability of Microsoft Windows Vista OS, notebook makers said. Similar to the chip giant's marketing investment in Centrino, a total of US$300 million will be injected into Intel's worldwide sales promotion of Centrino Pro, according to the makers.

Recognized as the Santa Rosa platform, Centrino Pro technology will be built around the 64-bit dual-core Merom core, said the makers citing the chip giant's latest product roadmap. In the second quarter of 2007, Intel will launch its new Core 2 Duo (Merom) CPU lineup, which includes the T7300, T7500 and T7700 models, featuring Socket P connector, 800MHz FSB and 4MB L2 cache, as well as the T7100 with 2MB of L2 cache, the makers indicated.

Simultaneously, Intel's GM965/PM965 chipsets and 82566MM Gigabit Network/Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN network chips, which all support Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT) and Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT), will be announced to complete the Santa Rosa platform, according to the makers.

The pairing of Intel's Santa Rosa platform and the Microsoft Windows Vista OS will bring the most efficiency to the worldwide notebook market, Taiwan notebook makers commented. Vendors including Acer and Hewlett-Packard (HP) have significantly revamped each of their respective product design roadmaps for 2007, such as ultra-slim and one-spindle notebooks featuring 10.4-, 12.1- and 13.3-inch widescreen displays, the makers indicated. Consequently, consumer notebook orders for 2007 have drawn more attention from first-tier notebook manufacturers, according to the makers.

An annual growth of the worldwide notebook market has been maintained at approximately 25%, the makers stated. In 2007, the market scale will likely top the 100 million mark, up from an estimate of 80-85 million notebooks for this year, the makers forecast.

PlayStation 3
Posted On 10/25/2006 08:51:44

The bad news continues to haunt Sony as its now been announced that they won't be able to meet the shipment figures which where recently announced.

Sony previously announced that they would be shipping a total of two million units of the PlayStation 3 to retail stores in the USA and Japan at the end of 2006. Jack Tretton has made a statement which spells doubt over the fact that Sony will be able to deliver the promises of two million units.

Jack Tretton made this announcement to a website called Bloomberg. He goes on to say that, "The honest answer is it's more of a target." and that they've clearly had production issues.

The source isn't sure if this will cause anymore delays for the PlayStation 3 in other countries but it does bring even more bad news for the company, as of late, they haven't had much good news.

AMD announced today that its acquisition of ATI has been completed for an approximately $5.4 Billion. According to the press release, customers should benefit from AMD’s and ATI’s combined platform development and technical support teams, which will be co-located in Taipei and Shanghai. Combined with the existing Austin and Toronto locations, these sites offer research and development and support to provide customers with a complete solution for optimized platform development.

AMD plans to deliver a range of integrated platforms in 2007 to serve key markets, including: commercial clients; mobile computing; and gaming and media computing. PC users will benefit from innovations intended to extend battery life on the next-generation AMD Turion 64 mobile technology-based platform and enhancements to the AMD LIVE! digital media PC platform that will enable users to get more from their favorite photos, music, and movies. AMD believes that these integrated platform innovations will bring customers improved system stability, better time-to-market, increased performance and energy-efficiency and overall, an enhanced user experience.

ATI shareholders who elected to receive cash will be entitled to receive, for each common share for which a valid cash election was made, approximately US $18.59 in cash plus approximately 0.1245 of a share of AMD common stock.

What do you get with that $5.4 Billion....ati.amd.com apparently.

SRS Audio Sandbox Technology
Posted On 10/05/2006 02:34:48
SRS has developed an "audio sandbox" that takes the hardware acceleration the company helped develop and replaces it with a software application. "The Soundbox is one of the very cool audio enhancement technologies for the PC because it delivers enhancement across the board," said Benjamin Grier, product marketing manager for SRS Labs. Users can choose the type of sound they want enhanced as in movies or music, and then choose the method of delivery such as ear buds or laptop speakers. SRS uses cyclical acoustic technology -- which it calls sound spatialization -- that allows users to feel as though the sound is coming from speakers that are much further apart to make the sound wider and more three-dimensional. The Audio Sandbox is free to try, but costs $19.95 for the full version.
