Having seen Steven a couple of times, I knew his set would be very competent and professional, his opening Elvis number being the perfect vehicle for his talents and indeed image. He then even managed to inject enough life into My Way - no mean feat in itself - before finishing with the feel-good Amarillo. He could do showcase sets like this in his sleep - probably does - but it is always good to catch this performer, even when as here he was really only ever in second gear. Also done ad nauseam is Elvis, but to his credit when I’ve seen Steven I’ve not minded him singing some Presley standards, while his cover of My Way doesn’t get you heading for the bar halfway through, unlike other acts. His finisher, Amarillo, was fun and enthusiastically sung along to by many in the audience
