One of the Wellknown Poems of Nazim Hikmet Ran
Category: Writing and Poetry

"The most beautiful sea hasn't been crossed yet.

The most beautiful child hasn't grown up yet.

Our most beautiful days we haven't seen yet.

And the most beautiful words I wanted to tell you I haven't said yet... "

IF I CRY BY ORHAN VELİ KANIK
Posted On 11/19/2006 12:27:25

HERE IS THE SECOND POEM A TURKISH POET-ORHAN VELI KANIK IN MY BLOG

IF I CRY,

CAN YOU HEAR MY VOICE IN MY VERSE?

CAN YOU TOUCH MY TEARS WITH YOUR HANDS?

I COULD NOT HAVE KNOWN THE UNBEARABLE BEAUTY OF THE SONGS

AND THE INCRIDIBLE INADEQUACY OF THE WORDS

BEFORE FALLING INTO A TROUBLE LIKE THIS.

THERE IS A PLACE,

I KNOW.

YOU CAN SAY EVERYTHING THERE FREELY,

I AM SO CLOSE TO IT,

I HEAR,

BUT CANNOT TELL.

(IN MEMORY OF ORHAN VELI KANIK-TURKISH POET/THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN BY ORHAN VELI KANIK AND PUBLISHED IN TURKISH IN ISTANBUL/TURKEY BY VARLIK YAYINLARI IN 1945)

Opinions about contemporary Turkish Poetry

Opinions about contemporary Turkish Poetry

Most people around the world apart from those who are interested in Turkish literature  by heart don't know and unfortunately didn't hear of anything about Turkish literature and poetry. In my opinion,it is now time to talk it about through the net among those who wish to hear and a desire to taste it.So,let's start with a short poem of Özdemir Asaf-a contemporary Turkish poet, linguistic and scientist-named as LIFE in which he wanted to describe the shortness of life and emphasize the unbearable beauty of living:

''I suppose that you haven't seen it;

Just passed away through there.

Pretty if you didn't recognize;

It's as beautiful as a butterfly.''

A PURE WISH
Posted On 11/19/2006 12:23:56

A PURE WISH.

LET THE SUN SHINES,

LET THE NEW WEEK STARTS,

WITH ALL MY AND YOUR WISHES ONCE,

LET ALL BE HAPPY,

FEEL PEACE AND SILENCE

WITH THE PRESENCE OF INNOSENCE FOREVER.

LET ALL BEAUTIES STAND FOR AND LIVE,

LET'S SHARE THE HUMANITY BY HEARTH.

MAN IS THE MEASURE OF ALL THINGS BY AZIZ NESIN

MAN IS THE MEASURE OF ALL THINGS BY AZIZ NESIN
Category: Writing and Poetry

Everyone knows what engineers, judges, workers and doctors do;but not so many understand the meaning of the work of writers and poets. What is the point of literature apart from helping the reader to while away the time?

From the moment we are born till the moment we die,we people try to understand the world around us;and the more we know it,the more we love it.That is why old people, who have known the world longer, love it more and are more attached to the world and life than the younger.

Consequently,to love something,it is essential we  understand it. Ignorance breeds fear.People fear the dark, because in the dark, they cannot recognize the objects that surround them.Fear breeds enmity. An enemy is something unfamiliar and unknown.

Man is the measure of all things. This is why, first and foremost,we try to understand man.First we always think of ourselves, then about others;and finally, about society as a whole. To do this,we have the aid of  science. But science is not the only means to knowledge.Science cannot illumine the complex labyrinth of man's spritual essence. This is the task of literature, which can penetrate the inner recesses of the human heart, lighten the darkness and reveal the mysteries.Literature helps us to understand the essence of man;and when we start to understand each other better,we begin to develop friendly feelings for each other. The task of literature is to draw people closer together, showing them as they are with their good and bad points.

Literature is the thread which links people and peoples;culture and cultures.

People who know themselves and others well, cannot destroy the values that were created by their ancestors and that are being created by their contemporaries. They believe that the spritual treasures of humanity are our common heritage. In so far, people know one another and possess common spritual values that were created by man, they stand for the peace and they fight against war. They know that only in conditions of peace can preserve the heritage of the world culture. Thus the literature serves to maintain the spritual and cultural values created by mankind throughout the milleniums.

The fundamental the task of the author today is to understand the very basic function of literature. But the work o0f the writer today is not only limited in helping people to understand one another. The author has one more duty, which is much more important and vital. This duty is to help people understand the necessity for change in the historical development of society, simply to say the transformation.

All progressive writers in Turkey today are aware of this vital task.As for me personally,I am a humorist. My task is to make people laugh, but at the same time to make them think. When I make people laugh,I try at the same time to fulfill my mission as a comrade of peace - worker of brotherhood, because when people are laughing, they will not fight.Enemies cannot smile at each other. This is the real significance of humour in literature.Humor is a sign of peace, friendship and brotherhood.Have you ever seen a smiling face that was ugly? All faces; whether white, black, yellow or red-Christian,Muslim;jew or Atheist;look pleasant when they smile. As a humourist,I want to make our beautiful world much more beautiful still.

THE OBJECTS OF HIGHEST VALUE ON EARTH IS HUMAN LIFE BY FAIZ AHMET FAIZ

THE OBJECTS OF HIGHEST VALUE ON EARTH IS HUMAN LIFE BY FAIZ AHMET FAIZ
Category: Writing and Poetry

There are truths which seem self-evident,yet which need to be repeated over and over again, because through forgetting them mankind may suffer irrepairable damage. One of these essential truths is this:the object of the highest value on the Earth is human life. The essence of humanism is to defend life against all attempts to destroy it and we have witnessed plenty of those in our time.

We all know what means of destruction have been accumulated on the beloved planet. We know something else too, that nobody has the right to consider the question of war and peace as being purely local-private affair. This is the most important, vital and decessive problem of our age.For the developing countries and my own country, they are particularly important: There is still a lot to be donebefore we can break free of the heritage of imperialism-collonialism,and each armed conflict throws us far back and hampers the building of a new and simply just life.

It is fine that we now live in a period of detente. It is fine that the princioles of coexistence are becoming more actively declared in relations between the states too, which until recently was one of the seats of the war. This experience has shown that peaceful coexistence is the only sensible and reliable way.

But we have got to fight for it;and in this fight literature has an important part to play:by spreading the worthy ideas of humanism,it contributes to the great struggle for life, progress and happiness, which is the essence of our epoch. For me the problems of peace and humanism have always been indivisible.peace is not merely a theme for an article or a book,it is the very substance of a writer's work and his whole life. This ishow I understand the mission of the art in our time.

I WILL COME TO YOU BY MIKHAIL LUKONIN FROM RUSSIA
Posted On 11/19/2006 12:15:26

YOU THINK

           I'LL COME BACK

           WEARY AND SPENT,

OBSESSED WITH THE HORRORS OF WAR,

            EAGER TO TELL

&nb sp;             OF THE BURNING HELL,

&nb sp;              OF DIRT AND PAIN AND GORE.

            THAT I WILL SPEAK,

AS IF IT WERE MY RIGHT,

             OF THAT WAXING LIFE.

BUT YOU YOURSELF ONE SHUTTERED NIGHT

&nb sp; THE VOLGA SWAM TO LIFE.

&nb sp; YOU HAD YOUR SHARE

            &nb sp;  OF EVIL DAYS,

&nb sp;  FOR WORDS WHAT DO YOU CARE!

     YOU  THINK

      AMIDST THE COMFORTS OF HOME

LIKE A LOST SOUL I'LL ROAM:

            &nb sp; YOU'LL MAKE A BED-

&nb sp;  I'LL THOSE ON THE FLOOR,

            &nb sp;  A TABLE YOU'LL SET-

&nb sp;  I'LL EAT BY THE DOOR,

&nb sp;  I'LL CREEP TO THE GATE AND DIG A TRENCH.

&nb sp;  AT NIGHT,OF YOU UNAWARE,

&nb sp;   I'LL JUMP AND SHOUT,MY FISTS CLENCHED,

&nb sp;   "STOP OR I SHOOT!WHO GOES THERE?"

            &nb sp;    NO!

&nb sp;    NONE OF THIS SHALL EVER BE!

&nb sp;    THE GORY STORY IS TOLD.

&nb sp;     WE'LL COME HIS HEARTS UNCALLOUSED AND FREE,

&nb sp;      GROWN OLDER NOT GROWN COLD.

&nb sp;      WE SHALL NOT RETURN

            &nb sp;                 BITTER AND SPENT.

&nb sp;       FOR THEN-WHY RETURN AT ALL!

&nb sp;       WE'LL COME TO BUILD,TO MEND ALL RENTS,

&nb sp;       BEFORE NO JOB OF WORK WE'LL STALL!

&nb sp;       TO PAY MY DEBT

&nb sp;        OF LOVE AND CARE

&nb sp;        TO YOU THROUG HELL I'VE SPED.

&nb sp;        WHAT I'VE BORE,I HAD TO BEAR.

&nb sp;         I'VE DONE NO FAVOURS WHATSOEVER.

&nb sp;         AND NOW NO GUN,

            &nb sp;         BUT A PEN I'LL HOLD

&nb sp;         TO WRITE A POEM OF LOVE,

            &nb sp;         I'LL WORK AT A MILL,

&nb sp;         I'LL SLEEP IN BED,

&nb sp;         WITH PEACEFUL SKIES ABOVE.

&nb sp;         NO CHOICE WE HAD OF TAKE OR LEAVE,

&nb sp;         HARDLY ANY CHOICE AT ALL...

&nb sp;          YET BETTER TO COME

&nb sp;                   WITH AN EMPTY SLEEVE

&nb sp;          THAN WITH AN EMPTY SOUL!

            &nb sp;                         &nb sp;       BY MIKHAIL LUKONIN/RUSSIA

HERE IS A SHORT PARAGRAPH SAID BY ATATÜRK WHICH SHOWS US HIS GREATNESS
Category: Life

MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATÜRK(1881-1938),the founder and first president of the secular TÜRKIYE has said that for the ANZACS died in ÇANAKKALE (Gallipoli):

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives...You are now lying in the land of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Mehmets and the Johnies to us where they lie side by side here in this beloved holy country of ours...You,the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your valuable tears;your sons are now lying in our bosom and are sleep in peace. After having lost their lives on this land, they have become our sons as well."
