Improving our Comments
Posted On 06/06/2007 12:26:38

We have lots and lots to do today so let's get busy blogging!

First things first -- check your comments.  As you finish checking
your comments, start composing your new and improved post on your
introduction.  Remember, you are recreating your original post using
all the things you have learned so far with the six traits of writing -
Ideas and Content & Word Choice.  You should add lots more details to your post.  Do not use overused words!

After you finish with your post, I want you take a few minutes to
read and comment to your favorite blogs.  Many of you express how much
you love receiving comments on your weblog. Comment starters for us to try out:

This made me think about.......

I wonder why.......

Your writing made me form an opinion about.......

This post is relevant because.......

Your writing made me think that we should.......

I wish I understood why.......

This is important because.......

Another thing to consider is.......

I can relate to this.......

This makes me think of.......

I discovered.......

I don't understand.......

I was reminded that.......

I found myself wondering.......

Try
starting off your comments with these phrases.  Think about the post
you read and make connections.  Remember, commenting and connections is
what blogging is all about!

I want to hear YOU!
Posted On 06/06/2007 12:24:17

When you compose your post today, concentrate on your voice!  I want to hear your VOICE as I read it.  Your voice makes your writing unique:

Your voice is what gives your writing personality, flavor and style.

Before we get started, let's try this activity to help us start thinking about voice!

Ask yourself the following questions as you proofread your post:

    1. Can you tell I am enthusiastic about my topic?
    2. Does this writing sound like me?
    3. How do I want my readers to feel?
    4. Will my story hold readers' attention? Will they want to hear more?

PhysX prices drop
Posted On 11/17/2006 01:46:50

Ageia Technologies has quietly slashed pricing of physics accelerators based on its PhysX PPU and also said Wednesday that during holiday season it would bundle $100 worth game along with every physics accelerator board. The titles in question will be City of Villains, Bet on Soldier: Blood of Sahara, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, all of which have support for PhysX hardware acceleration. In addition, the bundle will also include a demo of CellFactor: Combat Training, a prequel to the highly anticipated CellFactor: Revolution game to be released later this year.

Meanwhile, Ageia Technologies' add-in card partners - Asustek and BFG - have quietly reduced pricing of the PhysX add-in cards with 128MB 733MHz GDDR3 memory designed for PCI bus to $179 - $249, down from $299 initially. Price reduction along with the enrichment of the product bundle should make the PhysX accelerators more appealing for customers.

MS Launches Zune Portable Media Player
Posted On 11/16/2006 02:59:21

This press release from Microsoft officially announces that their "iPod killer" portable media player the Zune is now in stores. The $249.99 device's big main feature is its wireless capability to transfer songs and video to other Zune devices. Microsoft intends to update the current Zune through software updates, including adding support for Windows Vista and support for podcasts. In other news, this CNet News.com article has a financial analyst expressing doubt's on the Zune's success chances. IDC analyst Susan Kevorkian said Microsoft has created a nice-looking music player, but the first effort doesn't take full advantage of the device's built-in wireless connection or its large color screen. "In the first generation, Zune is all dressed up with no place to go," Kevorkian said. Among the key missing ingredients, she said, are the ability to buy songs on the go and to buy videos at all.

Update:
Bloomberg.com is reporting that Steve Ballmer has confirmed video sharing on the Zune and eventually a built-in phone. The video function would probably be used to transfer content created by Zune customers, Ballmer said in an interview today from Redmond, Washington. He declined to comment on when Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, would add video sharing or announce a phone model.

After several years of holographic optical storage media promising to be the next big thing after multi-layer optical storage, Hitachi Maxell plans on making its 300GB holographic disc version, the Tapestry HDS-300R available to certain entertainment industry customers starting next month, followed by a general release within the first quarter of 2007, targeted at enterprise-class users. This 300GB version will feature about around a 20MB/s data transfer rate. So far, InPhase would not disclose any pricing information, however the 300GB version has been reported to likely retail for between US$100 and $125. Based on this earlier report, the drive is likely to retail for around US$15,000.

The company expects to launch a consumer version of the product over the next two years with an aim to have its format standardised also. Its main plan at the moment is to target enterprise-class companies and the entertainment industries in an aim to replace magnetic tape for archival storage, not to mention overcome its limitations. InPhase plans to have a 2nd generation holographic disc version out in 2008, with a 800GB capacity and around a 80MB/s data transfer rate, followed by a 1.6TB version by 2010.
